According to a lab study published in the Journal of Nature Products, Researchers from Oregon State University established that the two compounds commonly found in hemp, called Cannabigerolic Acid (CBGA) and Cannabidiolic Acid (CBDA), were identified during a chemical screening effort as having the potential to combat the Coronavirus.
The study showed that these two compounds bound to spike proteins found on the virus blocked a step the pathogen uses to infect people. The compounds’ effects were tested against the Alpha and Beta variants of the virus.
It is important to note that this is an early stage study, at laboratory scale. So while this gives no basis for any conclusions, it definitely gives reason for further and extensive research on the topic.

“These compounds can be taken orally and have a long history of safe use in humans,” said Richard van Breemen, a Researcher with Oregon State’s Global Hemp Innovation Center. “They have the potential to prevent as well as treat infection by SARS-CoV-2,” he said in a statement.
